Saturday tile class went well. Today we focused on making open face press molds and sprig molds. While I'm teaching I'm not always able to grab photos' but I did get some after class had finished.

The mold came out well. It needed a little cleaning up but there were no air bubbles and the design came out clean. After it dries for a couple of days I will make a few tiles and show you. I also taught sprig molds. These babies are the best molds for all types of things. Additions to platters edges, tiles, cup handle details, etc. Yesterday while walking I picked up a douglas fir cone. I did not cut it in half as it would have fallen apart. For 3d things you cannot halve just inbed it into a sheet of clay  and clean up the edge.

I also use old yogurt containers with the bottoms cut out to make sprig molds but just spreading the plaster on top with your hands like you are decorating a cake works really well. I use #1 pottery plaster and it is cheap.

Here is one simple way to use these clay prints. Obviously these tiles need a bit of clean up but once the set up a bit I can work them better. Very Northwest :)
