Sundays are the days for getting things done around here. Although as far as pottery goes only the kiln was fired today. I fire it every Sunday mid day with a bisque and any low fire things hanging around the studio.
Went to the in-laws house today and we pruned some fruit tree's and transplanted a couple of apple tree's. Not sure they will make it but what's done is done. Back home I was able to uncover the alfalfa, move several bales up to the shed and get it covered and tied down better than it was. It appeared as though the tarp was leaking and getting some of our valuable goat food wet! Well I fixed that by re-using the green house plastic as a liner before the brown tarp.
Mucked out the doe pen and the buck pen as well as re-built the bucks roof and trimmed their nails. I see lots of re's in my post.....maybe I should work harder on getting it done right the first time!
My friend Stephen came by today to learn the lay of the land, he is taking care of our animals while we go play in the snow for the week. I am soooo looking forward to getting the heck out of here for a spell and hanging out with some friends.
Tomorrow I start teaching a throwing class. I have 5 students, 2 of which have some experience. I look forward to teaching throwing classes. I also started teaching a tile class on Saturday with 4 students and it went well. should be a fun group of people.
Here is our funny little raku kiln. Until we get the shed built for the Soda kiln I don't dare buy anything fancy for raku. This was an old electric kiln that was done! So we threw this together and run it off a small 10 gallon propane bottle. It gets decent results. Considering we do not use a pyrometer....thank god for serendipty!

Fun stuff! Belive it or not these are both the same glaze! thickness of application..... Name of the glaze is Copper Luster.
Gerstley Borate 80
Nepheline Synite 20
Cobalt carbonate 1.1
Copper carbonate 2.1

Under heavy post fire redcution it does actually make a nice copper luster.
